Introduction:

Hello and thank you for stopping by! I’m a cheeky little chap, a bit shy and unsure at first, but once I get to know you, my true personality shines through. I could go on all day (not that I’m vain!), but let’s just say I’m full of character.

I’m not very confident with hands yet, they can make me a little nervous. I’ll happily step up onto a stick or perch though, with encouragement and treats! I’ll do my best to trust you. My safehouse mum has taught me lots of tricks, including how to ‘pucker up’ and give kisses. I’m quite proud of that one!

I adore dancing and singing. I pick up tunes really quickly, even if they don’t always sound exactly like the original. I live happily with other birds, cats, dogs (while in my cage of course!) and those little humans called children.

People say Seegals can be loud. My Safehouse mum just says I’m funny, cheeky and entertaining! Whether my new family is male or female doesn’t matter. Love me, and I’ll love you right back!

History/ Background:

I was hatched and DNA tested in 2017 – a confirmed male. My first family was an elderly couple who adored me. On advice, they had my wings clipped, but sadly it wasn’t done well. When I came into the care of Problem Parrots in 2021, my wings caused me problems. Problem Parrots helped and arranged for donor feather implants, which meant I could fly again, not perfectly, but I could take off and land without crashing beak first! Flying is still a bit of a challenge, and I sometimes get frustrated, but I keep trying.

Over time I have had a few short term homes, and an adopted home, but have come back into the charity due to overbonding issues, which are not my fault. Since 2023, I’ve been settled with my current Safehouse mum, learning to adjust and find balance again.

Training:

I love learning new things, especially if treats or praise are involved. Because of my earlier wing problems, I had to relearn how to fly, but I am always willing to try if encouraged gently. I get bored with the same things repeatedly, so I enjoy a mix of activities.

Training works best in a quiet room away from my cage and other birdy distractions. I can sometimes come when called, flying as gracefully as I can! I enjoy copying tunes and singing along with you. My taste in music changes with my mood, but if its catchy, I’ll start dancing!

I now sleep through the night, thanks to a full blackout cover. I’m much less grumpy in the mornings. Bedtime ends with a cashew, but only after I give a kiss. In the morning, I’m asked for kisses too, though I usually try to sneak out as no treats.

Diet:

Bon appetite! I’m not a fussy eater! I’ll dig into just about anything. I enjoy veggies, chopped or whole, warm or cool and have transitioned from seed mixes to Harrison’s Fine and Tidymix, both are delicious!

Fruit isn’t always my favourite, but I do enjoy apples, grapes, blueberries and banana when offered.

Enrichment:

I’ve had all sorts of toys over the years. Sometimes I am cautious with new ones, so you’ll need to test what I like slowly. Give me cardboard, magazines, or old books and I’ll happily shred them for you!

I have a few favourite toys that I hope can be replaced like for like when they wear out. I also love paper, it’s fun to tear up or hide under. Small cardboard boxes are perfect little hideouts too.

I adore sitting in the window watching the word go by. I’ll call you over if something interesting happens! Going outside is one of my favourite things; I love a good soaking from a spray or a splash in my water bowl. My safehouse mum takes me out in a buggy, while I can be a little nervous at first, regular outings in nice weather helps me relax.

We’ve tried harness training, but I am still not keen on being handled. I can be towel trained, though its a work in progress. I do best with calm reassurance. If you talk to me softly and give me gentle head tickles to let me know everything’s ok.

Summary:

I’m a cheeky senegal with a shy side at first, but once I get to know you, I’m full of personality and fun. I love singing, dancing and showing off my tricks. I get along well with other animals (from my cage) and children. All I really want is someone to love me as much as I’ll love them.

I was hatched in 2017, and have had a bit of a journey with my wings after a bad clip.I’ve worked hard to relearn how to fly and although it’s tricky I try my best.

I enjoy learning new things, and seeing new environments to keep me interested. I sleep well, have a good routine. If routine goes out of sync this is not a problem either.

I’m not a fussy eater and enjoy a mix of foods, especially my veggies. I also love shredding paper, playing with my favourite toys, watching the world from the window and getting outside when I can.

I can be a bit nervous of hands, so I need someone to be patient and gentle, who will keep building my confidence. If you give me time, kindness and reassurance, I’ll reward you with lots of affection, entertainment and companionship!
