Introduction:

Hello everyone! I’m a lovely, fully feathered Orange Winged Amazon called Harry.

Harry has a lovely temperament and is a gentle parrot. He is currently living in a bird room with other parrots and gets on lovely with them all. Harry did have a parrot friend, who sadly passed away a couple of years ago, since then he has been part of a flock of a variety of parrots from caiques, cockatoo’s to macaws. Harry loves the company of other birds and will allow them to preen him. 

Harry is a little shy around people at first, he enjoys having a chat with you and will often say ‘hello?’ when it’s time for breakfast. He loves being spoken to and will often respond when you spend time talking to him.

Harry will need time to get to know and trust you, but would be an ideal companion in time, a little patience will be needed.

History/Background

Harry has come nack into the charity through no fault of his own and has been happily living in a mixed flock.

Temperament

Harry has a lovely, gentle personality and is not an aggressive bird. He enjoys observing what’s going on around him and prefers to build trust in his own time.

He can be wary of hands and step up perches. If you ask him to step up, he’ll usually choose to fly away instead. However, he will happily take treats from your hand, showing he’s willing to build trust through positive experiences.

Harry absolutely loves bath time and enjoys being gently sprayed with water, which is one of his favourite parts of the day.

Enrichment

Harry spends most of his time out with the flock, flying around and watching everything that’s going on. He enjoys looking out the window and loves simply being around other birds. At bedtime, he is happy to return to his cage for the night.

He isn’t particularly interested in lots of toys, but he does enjoy chewing cardboard and likes relaxing on rope swings. These seem to be his favourite forms of enrichment, along with being misted.

Diet

Harry isn’t a fussy eater and enjoys varied diet. He happily eats a wide selection of foods alongside the flock.

Summary

Harry would thrive in a calm, patient home where he can continue building confidence at his own pace. He would benefit from someone who enjoys working with positive reinforcement and understands that trust is earned over time.

A home with other friendly parrots would be a wonderful bonus, as Harry clearly enjoys flock life and forms close bonds with other birds.

Harry is a truly lovely amazon with a kind nature, a funny personality and so much potential. Give him time, patience and understanding, and you’ll gain a wonderful companion who loves conversation, enjoys his daily routine and will reward you with kindness and trust.
