Introduction

“My name is Bobo, and I’m approximately 20 years old. I have all of my feathers and my safehouse mum says I am a very handsome boy! I love listening and watching everything that is going on, especially when in the aviary with my friends. I love company and spending time out of my cage so I can explore and play with my toys”

History/Background

Bobo was previously adopted, but due to a change of circumstances had to be returned to the charity, through no fault of his own. He has settled in his safehouse well.

Personality/Behaviour

Although he is a friendly bird, he can be deceiving (like most greys!) he will often lower his head for a scratch, but then attempt to bite. Bites are normally not hard, rather a warning, and seem to be more out of uncertainty, so he will let you know when he feels threatened. Despite this, with patience, and reading his body language, if he is in the right mood, he will step up and have a scratch. He does get particularly hormonal at times, so at these times, handling is best kept to a minimum, as he will start to regurgitate his food. Camomile seems to help a little with this.

Bobo loves to be out in the aviary when the weather is good, with the company of his two friends, where he can fly, climb around and play with his toys. He likes to watch everyone in the busy yard go about their business. He gets all the attention from everyone who comes past and he can watch the world go by. He talks and whistles all day, mimicking sounds and learning new ones. His party trick is singing ‘Always look on the bright side of life’ which makes everyone smile and in turn, sing along with him.

Bobo is not confrontational with other birds. he loves their company but keeps his distance and his own space.

Training

Over the last few months, Bobo has settled down and started to trust his safehouse mum more. He steps up much better than he did at first, but does not tolerate men very well. This could change with time and patience.

He really is a lovely bird, wh is clearly sensitive and cautious, but seems to want to trust and get the most out of life. He has recently started some basic clicker training, which he seems to enjoy.

Diet

Bobo has a big bowl of chop every morning, he particularly likes danelion leaves and flowers, chamolmile flowers, most fruit, especially blueberries, grapes and pomegranate. All nuts, and a low sunflower seed mix such as Tidymix. I also grind up Harrisons Coarse pellets and sprinkle them on his food.

Enrichment

Bobo loves to chew and shred wood, paper and cardboard and all his toys! He will not tolerate being sprayed with water.

His favourite thing to do is being outside in the aviary. He loves being talked to and will listen with great interest.

Summary

All in all, Bobo is a lovely bird that deserves a home that has lots of time and patience to gain his trust, so that a good relationship can form. He is clearly intellegent and his temperament has improved over the last few weeks so will continue to do so in the future.
