Species: Green-Winged Macaw
Name: Amber
Adoption Fee: £500

Location: Rotherham
Cage Supplied: No

Introduction:

Hi, I’m Amber, a beautiful macaw!

History/Background:

Amber is around 30 years old and came into the charity when her previous carer sadly passed away.

Current Condition:

Amber needed some medical attention when she came into the charity, but is a fit and healthy bird now, with so much love to give. She has a scissor beak which will need continued maintenance with regular checks from an avian vet, and will potentially need re-trimming in the future. She is a very beautiful bird though, with lovely feathers.

Training:

Amber will need ongoing training to help her come out of her shell – she occasionally steps up, but this is still a work in progress. She enjoys interaction (she dances and says hello!) but is not a cuddly bird.

Diet:

Amber enjoys a diet of Johnston and Jeff lean and fit parrot seed mix, Topps large pellets (this is a recent addition to her diet, but she has taken well to them), and in the evening she has a ‘chop’ mix of peppers, herbs, fruit, chillies and occasional small amounts of carrot, parsnip, kale, and broccoli. She also enjoys cooked vegetables and sprouting seeds. She loves walnuts in their shells, so she has one in the evening as well as a couple of other nuts. She is a macaw, so she has a big appetite!

Enrichment:

Amber did not have any toys in her previous home, and still hasn’t learned to play with them, but she loves playing with cardboard and paper, as well as climbing her java tree and being out of her cage all day.

Summary:

Amber is a pleasure to care for and will be a lovely addition to the right home. She is happy with her own company, isn’t destructive and is fairly quiet for a macaw – she can, of course, do a loud macaw screech, but she isn’t particularly noisy and she only screams when she’s excited. She puts herself to bed well in the evening when she sees her dinner. She is a wonderful bird with so much to give to the right family – please don’t hesitate to apply for her below!
