Species: Green-Winged Macaw
Adoption fee: £500
Cage supplied: No
Introduction:
Hi, I am Podders, I am a very handsome DNA tested male Green-winged Macaw. I am about 9 years old, and I am a pretty friendly fella, although I prefer ladies if I am honest!
History/Background:
I have come into the charity through no fault of my own, as my previous carer unfortunately became too ill to look after me.
Current presentation:
I am a beautiful and nearly fully feathered macaw, but I started to pluck the feathers at the top of my wing. This has stopped now but my forever home should help me recover and keep an eye on my feather condition!
Training:
I know how to step up, but I can be a stubborn little monkey, so ongoing training to help me learn to step up on command would be really helpful. I usually step up after a few times of asking though!
Diet:
I am currently enjoying a diet of AS30 no sunflower seed mix, as well as sprouted and soaked seeds. I am not keen on ‘chop’, but I might still learn to enjoy different foods!
Enrichment:
I love playing with toys, shouting the song of my people and spending the day out of my cage with my hoomans. I am not a bird who can be kept in a cage all day and will require lots and lots of company.
Summary:
Podders is a beautiful Green-winged Macaw, ideally suited to someone with experience in caring for macaws. He can be loud and sometimes shouts. He prefers ladies to men, so ideally needs a woman to care for him. He will need work on his diet, but he is getting there. He loves a head scratch and to shoulder surf, and is generally great company. He has so much to give to the right family.
