Introduction:
Charlie and Rodney are two gorgeous bonded Amazon parrots. Charlie is an Orange-Winged Amazon and Rodney is a Mealy Amazon. They are two very vocal birds who often make use of colourful language. They are friendly and take treats from people nicely, but need time and effort to help them flourish.
History/Background:
Charlie and Rodney have come back into the charity through no fault of their own. They are complex birds who find it difficult to trust people because they have not had settled lives.
Current Presentation:
Charlie has been plucked around the back of the neck as Rodney has a tendency to over-preen him and gets a bit carried away. They are otherwise a very handsome pair and brighten up any room they are in.
Training:
They both need a lot of consistent, ongoing training to help them to progress. They are wary of hands, but will take treats gently.
Enrichment:
Both parrots love being out of their cage for most of the day and playing with each other. They love playing with cardboard boxes, but could be introduced to new toys to keep them occupied.
Diet:
Charlie and Rodney are both on a diet of AS30 seed mix, with fresh fruit and vegetables.
Summary:
Charlie (Orange-Winged Amazon) and Rodney (Mealy Amazon) are intelligent, complex birds who are looking for a home where they can get the attention, training, and play time that they need. They prefer to be in a quiet and peaceful environment where they can be the centre of attention. They do not get on with other animals, and ideally need a carer who is committed and experienced enough to train them. Charlie is the more confident of the two, but both need consistent training to help them flourish. Both birds are very vocal and love to ‘opera sing’, but they do use colourful language so please bear this in mind if you have neighbours or children. They are very sweet and playful birds who deserve a loving and accommodating home where they can finally be settled forever.
