Best friends forever

Hi, I’m Barnie

PP number: PP1198

Name: Barnie

Species: Congo African Grey

Adoption fee: CITES

Introduction:

Barnie here! I’m a very easy-going bird, I can talk and my safe house carer says that I am saying new words every day. I’m currently in a safe house with two other African Grey parrots. They do not bother me and I just keep to myself. I don’t scream and love being out of my cage as much as possible.

History/Background:

I have come back in to the charity through no fault of my own. I was well loved, but my previous family had to make the difficult decision to rehome me.

Current Presentation:

I have plucked some of my chest feathers, but these are slowly beginning to regrow. Other than that, I am a very handsome bird.

Training:

I love head tickles from the man here and always step up on command. I also enjoy sitting on his shoulder as he wanders through the house. I can fly very well but usually choose to walk and climb. There are some ladies here in the house and I let them offer me a nut and clean my cage, but at the moment I’m not too keen on them touching me. This may change with the right training and care.

Diet:

I like most fruit and vegetables and I like a little AS30 seed mix, but I’m happy to try most things!

Enrichment:

I love interacting with and spending time with people, especially the male here at the safehouse. I need encouragement to play with more toys and to try new things, but I enjoy a relaxed environment where I can observe everything that is going on.

Summary:

Barnie needs a male main carer as currently he currently won’t step up for women. He is not aggressive towards female carers but he does prefer men. He will need firm boundaries as he has a tendency to over-bond, but all in all he is a super bird and a pleasure to care for.
